Keeping our kids safe in a world that can seem incredibly scary at times while also letting them be kids is a top priority for every parent. In this episode, Kim sits down with Carrie Conran of Beating Disaster to talk about effective prevention methods to keep our kids safe without instilling a spirit of fear of unnecessary anxiety in them (or in us).
We talked about how to let our kids be kids without being helicopter moms, how to make them a hard target, so they are undesirable to the people we don’t want wanting them, the importance of not “scaring our kids straight, playtime as a powerful tool for teaching kids about boundaries, safety, and self-protection, and what to do when your kids are exposed to inappropriate content online.
We dug into how common parenting methods, while well-intended, could inadvertently make kids more vulnerable and what to do instead, and how being fully present and caring for ourselves as moms contributes to the overall safety and well-being of our kids.
You may want to pop you ear buds in for this episode. There is nothing inappropriate, but we do talk about some things that could create a spirit of fear in little listeners.
Let’s get started!
